NHS Charges

The cost of your dental treatment under the NHS is determined by the specific care you require to maintain the health of your mouth, gums, and teeth. You’ll only be charged one fee for each complete course of treatment, even if multiple visits to your dentist are necessary to complete it.

There are three different bands, each with its own charge: Band 1, Band 2, and Band 3.

BAND 1

COURSE OF TREATMENT
£25.80

This includes the following:

  • Examination
  • Diagnosis (such as X-rays)
  • Advice on preventive measures for future oral health
  • Scale and polish (if necessary)
  • Application of fluoride varnish or fissure sealants (if necessary)
  • Urgent treatment completed in a single visit.

Please note that charges may vary depending on the specific dental service you require.

BAND 2

COURSE OF TREATMENT
£70.70

This covers all treatment included in Band 1

Plus, any further treatment such as:

  • Fillings
  • Root canal Treatment
  • Tooth extractions of one or more of your teeth

BAND 3

COURSE OF TREATMENT
£306.80

This covers all treatment included in Bands 1 and 2

Plus, more complex procedures such as:

  • Crowns
  • Dentures
  • Bridges

FAQS

If, within 2 calendar months of completing a course of treatment, you need more treatment from the same or lower charge band, such as another filling, you do not have to pay anything extra.

If the additional treatment needed is in a higher band, you’ll have to pay for the new NHS course of treatment.

Once 2 months have passed after completing a course of treatment, you’ll have to pay a new NHS charge band for any new NHS dental treatment received.

There’s no dental charge for:

  • Denture repairs
  • To have stitches removed
  • To stop blood loss
  • For a dental prescription. With this being said, if you pay for prescriptions at a pharmacy, you’ll have to pay the usual prescription charge of £9.65.
